I dont know the type of battery in iPod, but if it is Li-ion, there is no memory effect on these, if it is Ni-cad, then it does.
The simple cure for this is to completly discharge and re-chage them a few times, but prevention is better than cure, so only charge it when its empty, not half full. There is a nasa web-page somewhere about maximizing the life of these, if i find the link Ill post it.
