there are outlet strips that detect when power is being drawn from a specific outlet 
and then turn the others on/off automatically.  i haven't seen one recently though i 
must confess but they are likely out there.  in any case, with a modern monitor the 
monitor will basically turn off when the g4 does, drawing less than 5w much the same 
as a tv waiting for you to hit a button on the remote does, and drawing similar power 
(neither is really completely off of course).  though i must wonder why you bought a 
g4 if using the 8500 is easier than flicking 2 switches?  just wondering.  ps, the 
keyboard power button will only work if it's plugged directly into one of the usb 
ports, it actually violates the usb spec and won't work through a hub.  apparently 
that's why apple omitted it, to avoid service calls when people used a hub.  even the 
power switch on an adb keyboard works great with an adapter, for what it's worth, i've 
done that and it is handy (every time there's a pepsi syndrome and i have to wash and 
dry my "normal" keyboard).
