In the absence of my ATTO ExpressPCI card actually wanting to talk to OS X, I decided to play with my new Radeon 7000 card instead.
I grabbed PCIExtreme! and installed the PCI support and rebooted. Success. Q.E. Checker 1.2 reported 'Display 1 is accelerated'. I noticed the difference first when I minimized a window I was working in. WOOWW <jaw hits floor> it was so smooth compared to the Rage 128. I was gleeful, and spent the next 5 minutes minimizing and un-minimizing stuff, oopning finder windows and other aimless stuff to see how well it all worked. I'm totally impressed with it. I tried DVD Player with my customary benchmark (the Lobby Scene from The Matrix) and it seemed fine apart from 3 minor video skips. Apparently this is an issue with having QuartzExtreme enabled. I also dig the fading wallpaper changing. I have a set of 10 wallpapers made from stills from The Matrix and they fade into each other superbly :).
