You have a dying hard disk. Back everything up ASAP. Preferably, don't do anything else with it -- turn on/off or run any other software -- until you do. Then replace it. Could be any reason, (around here, leaving a computer unused for a few weeks sees it at risk from humidity, for instance), or just old age. But when it gets that bad it's irreparable, certainly untrustworthy.
