I have an xserve sitting less than 4 feet from me. i barely notice it. and with the
exception of a bad ram module it has been great. the check-signers are very impressed
with it's appearance and performance. I also like it because nobody messes with it for
the most part A. because half the time they don't see it and B. because it looks
foreign to them when they are expecting a tower server. I have it perched atop a metro
rack so that it's just about eye level with most average people. the only problem I do
have is with touchyfeeling people who like to poke at the drive faces, but I keep it
locked to avoid problems. I consider the fans (aka jet engines) to be white
noise...dulls the chatter from the hall and surrounding offices.
