Text files, documents, address lists,  and the like are really rather small
-- a lifetime of writing fits in a couple of MB. So at least archive these
(as stuffit, zip files or whatever) and upload to some site (maybe your
ISP) that lets you have some online storage. And/or email to a friend with
a burner and ask him to burn it for you. (It's not really viable to backup
multimedia, MP3, video, etc like this though.) It really is a queasy
feeling to risk all your work to a single hard disk.
