Wow!  Thanks for all the advice and help, folks!  You're a pretty decent
bunch of people... 8^)

I wil indeed "lift the hood" and see what sort of drive I've got, but if
IDE will work in my machine, I don't see why not to just get one of those.
They ARE cheaper, I have found.  

And thanks to Riffes for posting the $89 deal for a 80GB hard drive... 
that's the best price I've seen yet!  

Thanks again for all the great advice and guidance.  I'll let you all know
how I fare with all these upgrades!
