Now hold on there. First of all are you talking about a B&W rev.A or something else? Secondly what sort of problems have you been experiencing with the USB card? Thirdly, what's wrong with the built-in USB ports (if it is a B&W we're talking about here!)? Why not use a USB hub if you're running out of ports?
Have you tried installing the USB Card adapter driver from Apple? This will solve many problems for you if you are running OS 9 and up (NOT X). Also is the card OHCI compliant? If it is EHCI you will be having problems and you'll probably need a new card that's OHCI compliant. Lastly my situation was this : I bought an I/OFlex USB2.0/Firewire PCI combo card on eBay and the USB2.0 ports were OHCI and EHCI compliant (no drivers supplied as the box said it would work with a PCI mac running OS 9 and up including X -- and X had USB 2.0 built-in support apparently). Well when I installed it in my B&W rev.A (running X.1.5) I discovered that the USB ports were somehow not working BUT the Firewire ports were fine. Everytime I plugged in a USB1.0 device (a mouse, scanner, etc) in the port (remember these are USB2.0 ports and they should be backward compatible) the computer detected the device and wanted to install drivers for it. It would search for the drivers, wouldn't find drivers, and then give up and the device couldn't work. I sort of gave up on the USB2.0 ports and accepted the fact that the EHCI part of the card was screwing things up for the USB ports and I at least had a pair of perfectly working Firewire ports. I couldn't install the USB card adapter driver from Apple since it was written only for OS 9. I then found X drivers from Macally for their USB2.0 card adapter. I thought what's the harm. I installed the drivers and now the bloody thing works! I plugged in a mouse and the arrow moved as expected. BTW make sure the card is installed when you install the Macally drivers OR else when you reboot you'll get a broken folder icon. on 12/8/02 5:12 PM, Brian Christmas at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Sorry Mate. > > I came here via the LEM swap list, which suggested the OutBack list, > which offered this along the line somewhere. > > Perhaps, while I'm here, I could re-phrase. > > I'm having problems with my G3 rev A, and a generic low cost usb card > (as usual!!). > > I would rather replace the rom than muck about with expensive cards. > > I only want to drive a Kensington Cordless mouse. > > I've tried eBay, and the only rom available to the land of Oz won't > advise me of shipping costs. > > Would any one be able to advise me where I could pick up a suitable rom > please?? > > I'll go back to the Swap list now I've fixed the damage here (grin) > > > Many thanks. > > > Regards, Santa (PLEASE, not Mr. Christmas, I might be old, but I'm from > Oz, and we loath formality) > --- Installing any version of Windows on your computer is like getting ready for a crash test and you're the dummy. --- -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
