Hi,

I'm new to the Mac world and seem to have stumbled at the first hurdle.

I've recently bought a 2nd hand Mac G3 B+W with ATI RAGE graphics card and
an Apple 17" CRT Studio Display (graphite colour). Unfortunately, when I
boot the machine all I get is a blank screen with the power light flashing
alternately Green and Orange on the front panel.

When I power up the G3 I can hear what sounds like the display degaussing
but nothing is displayed. I've checked the VGA connector but all seems fine.

The machine came with OS 9.2.2 & 10.2 loaded but since then I've added
another SCSI HD and changed the SCSI addresses. I was hoping to be able to
boot from the CD-ROM to format, partition and re-install OS 9.2.x and OS
10.2. I've tried booting from an OS 9.2.1 CD-ROM (restart + C key) but
obviously can't see what's happening!

So... is there any way of finding out if this is a problem with the display
and/or graphics card? If it's not a hardware fault is there any other
possible explanation?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Gareth
