Hello,

I am new to the list, currently operating with a PM8500/132, and have found
an
local opportunity to pick up a Gigabit G4 "bare" system. System is a G4
450DP. It has
a bad power supply, and is missing Ram, CD/DVD, HD, video card and
keyboard/mouse.
I would like to put the machine back together, so I would like to do this,
in order:

1. Fix/replace power supply: Check fuse (is there one), and if necessary get
another power supply.
Is there anybody who repairs these, or do I start looking on eBay, if this
isn't just a fuse? Fan doesn't
spin on the power supply, so don't suspect logic board.

2. Buy a CD Rom/DVD/DVD Ram Drive. Lowest cost is a CD ROM, better option is
a DVD. Is there any
advantage to springing for a DVD-Ram drive? Price difference at OWC is $10.
Any cons to getting a
DVD-RAM drive?

3. Get some RAM. If I understand Apple's specifications, PC-100 SDRAM, as
used on Intel boxes should be fine.
Is this correct?

4. Get a video card. Probably an AGP Rage 129 to start. Is there any way to
get the PC version of the Radeon
series (7000, 8500, 9000) to work on a Mac?

5. I want to use a Griffin ADB-USB adaptor to move my keyboard, mouse, and
Kensington track ball to the
Gigabit G4. Anybody tried this with success?

6. Minimum OS is either 9 or X, correct?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I'd like to have a firm plan of
action before thinking of making
an offer for this. I'd appreciate any feedback on any of the 5 points above,
either on list or back channel.
