well, i've always had great luck with the disk repair part of norton, but yes, the file saver and other apps are useless. i've never seen a third party patch for file protection that didn't seriously hose things, the same goes for letting anti-virus software "auto correct" things, the only thing i've seen that's worse is software that tries to "inoculate" other peoples software from viruses. the same goes for crash gard, aka "crash enabler", i've yet to see a third party patch for windows or the mac os that doesn't really mess up the os and the file system etc.
like i said, the disk repair stuff is good (imho...), but the other parts of the package are certainly a good way to mess things up! your mileage may have varied, and so may mine in the future but it's been rock solid for me so far for disk checking and repair ONLY.
