It is ATA-3. 16.67mb/sec max throughput. > I want to replace the 4.5Gb drive with an ATA/100 > drive (Seagate 380021A > 80Gb), - will I find > a) It'll work OK, but with a performance hit Faster ATA drives are always backward compatible with slower busses, just not the other way around. IOW, it *will* work, but at the slower ATA-3 speed. > b) I'd be better fitting an ATA/100(133) controller > card in a PCI slot. This is a great option if you have the money and a free PCI slot. I installed a VST ATA/66 card in my Beige, and was quite pleased with the speed bump when combined with a Maxtor 7200rpm HDD. OWC has a Acard UltaATA/66 controller for $49.99 plus whatever overseas shipping would be. This is a good deal, and about as fast as you're going to get on an ATA bus. I remember reading some bench tests of controller cards recently, and even the 100 and 133 controllers were no faster than the ATA 66 ones. Here's a shortened link: <http://tinyurl.com/52ds> Good luck. Upgrading a Beige G3 is good fun! Alex __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful.
