I'm about ready to give in. I've been tweaking all week to get OS 10.2 to run "satisfactory" on this Beige G3 MT but it is STILL painfully slow. Here's what I have and have done. Can anyone make suggestions to help?
- Beige G3/266 with Zif upgrade to 466 Mhz. - 30 gig IBM drive...partitioned...first 7.9 gig has OS X & 9.2.2 on it - 384 MB RAM...3 sticks of 128 from Crucial - Sony Trinitron 100 ES Monitor - No other peripherals I've turned off Animated functions for the windows and "bouncing" icons. Installation took a couple try's and took at least 2 hours. When OS X boots up, I get an "OUT OF SCAN RANGE" error in a blue box on the Sony monitor. It'll sit there for about 5 minutes then it'll decide to operate properly but it ALWAYS resorts to 1152 x ? Monitor resolution. This does not happen in 9.2.2...it boots right up. When I say, slow...I mean slow...you select a folder and there's a considerable delay. When installing/setting up, I would click on the "continue" buttons, and then they would turn blinking blue Aqua then a delay then it would go onto the next window. I know that Quartz Extreme is not applicable, thankfully....it would probably be even slower! I've downloaded all the updates I could find applicable from Apple's site. What am I missing? I have a G3/500 Dual USB iBook that smokes this thing. Suggestions? Recommendations? Flames? I was hoping to make the final full leap to OS X but it's looking like I'm going to stick with 9.2 if I can't speed this puppy up at least a bit. I can't even imagine how Photoshop will react.
