You're using a Blue & White? I can't speak for TFO, specifically, as I no longer have it installed. But, I would start your search for usability enhancement with the 1.4.1 Java update. It's delivered huge improvements for Java apps on my system.
Beyond that, a G4 500/550 and a video card that supports QE (whether or not you have it enabled) are well worth the investment, assuming you have it to invest.
