I am in the market for 2 inkjet printers, one for my beige running X.2.6
with usb and one for the kids to share on a couple of pcs (you pick your
fights that are worthwhile and I was going to lose WAY too many husband
points over this).

I am looking to get the same printer to help out with supplies. I mostly
use it to print text (quicken, mapquest, etc) and the kids will want to
print some color stuff, but I don't need a photo printer (yet). I am
looking at the printers that are one step up from the bottom, ie Epson C62,
HP 5550 etc.

I'll assume you aren't interested in setting up a print station or whatnot to use one printer across both sets.

I got my sister an Epson because it was $8 or something. If it were over $10 I wouldn't have. I'm a huge advocate of HP printers/scanners. I've just never seen anything that works as well as HP for anywhere near the same price, and I'll pay you (ok, i wont) to not get a Lexmark.
