Hi,
I just acquired a G3 MT that has a Ethernet card installed in the PCI slot.
Why is or for what purpose does this card serve when there's already a
Ethernet port on the rear of the MAChine?

This machine is the first one I have purchased with a card installed. My
other 15 or so G3's are all networked thru the Ethernet port on the rear of
the machine...

It could have been used as a router.

The G3's on board Ethernet is 10BaseT. Is the card a 10/100 card, someone might have wanted more speed. I have 10/100 PCI cards in several machines with on board Ethernet for just this reason.
