The answer to your question depends on whether you're just needing USB 2
card and peripheral support, or that plus USB 2 speed. Didn't see this
distiction made in earlier replies.

Although only OS X supports USB 2 speeds, USB 2 cards (and USB 2
peripherals) are backwards-compatible with the older USB 1.1 standard. 

So, if the new card conforms to the already-available drivers for OS 8-9
(the v1.4.1 download package from apple.com) then your Ioemga should do
fine.

At 4X speed, of course.
