Hey all -

This is just a quick question, and it's just to confirm things -

I plan on getting a new hard drive for my beige G3 266 running OS 8.6 (with possible plans to go to OS 9, but no further) with 128 M RAM.

It'll probably be about 40 gig, (I can afford to throw money at this computer, but not fire money out of a cannon in the general direction) and I was wondering if there was anything I should know. AFAIK, i just need something with an IDE/ATA interface, and I just hook it up to one of the computer's ATA busses. Right?
Also, any tips on brands that go well with these machines? And are there any Mac specific quirks that I should know about?

I know this should be a simple process, but as almost everyone on this list knows, a simple process is infinitely more likely to have some really dumb little obscure problem than a complicated process. (eg, if you're putting a seagate drive on as a secondary slave, it has to be on the first tuesday of the year that has a new moon in the sky...you know, that sort of thing)

On a slightly different note, what's a good running temp. for the processor on this machine? Currently at 266, it's going at 23C (73F) , and I'm thinking about overclocking it (probably only to 300 MHz - I would rather err on the side of caution, which I know is a ridiculous principle when I'm thinking about overclocking, but these things happen.)

I'll get out of your way now, I'll see you later

Cheers,
Evan
