Hey all -
This is just a quick question, and it's just to confirm things -
I plan on getting a new hard drive for my beige G3 266 running OS 8.6 (with possible plans to go to OS 9, but no further) with 128 M RAM.
It'll probably be about 40 gig, (I can afford to throw money at this computer, but not fire money out of a cannon in the general direction) and I was wondering if there was anything I should know. AFAIK, i just need something with an IDE/ATA interface, and I just hook it up to one of the computer's ATA busses. Right?
Also, any tips on brands that go well with these machines? And are there any Mac specific quirks that I should know about?
If by Mac-specific Quirk you mean 'you plug it in and it works without a hassle' then you've got that to deal with ;-)
Any 40G drive on the market will work; the only thing to be aware of is making sure the master/slave jumpers are in place. If you're replacing the old drive, it's easy, just set the new drive to the same settings as the old one and you're golden.
