Dan, I don't know if you got more info on this or not, but I have recently been investigating the B&W G3 to add a HD and I learned quite a bit at: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G3-ZONE/
I think there were 2 versions, but several variations. The first had room for only one HD. Then there was a version with room for 3 side-by-side HDs - one of which could be a SCSI. (It could have come with a SCSI or an IDE)Then there was a version which had room to piggy-back an additional HD. But there was also a chip of significance. The site above gives a way to ID it and shows where to find it. It is usually in the piggy-back version, but may be in an earlier version. If you don't have the newer chip and want to increase the size of the HD or add an additional from a 3rd party, you can have problems and need to add a: Sonnet Tempo ATA/133 dual channel PCI card (supports up to 4 internal IDE ATA/133 drives) which is about $100. I think someone on the list mentioned the Sonnet card before, but I didn't really get it until I went to several sites on this topic.
