My B&W G3/350 (448MB, 60 GB HD) is currently running OS 8.6 but I would like to upgrade to OS 9.x in order to take advantage of some software upgrades, performance improvements, etc. Before I purchase the software, which upgrade is considered the best or most stable - OS 9.1 or 9.2.1, and what are the main advantages?

Personally, I like OS 9.2.2. It includes a number of stability fixes, the faster ip stack, and a more reliable dhcp client.

The only thing I don't like about 9.2.2 is that it takes a bit more time to open Finder windows, if the folder contains lots of files and the drive is very fragmented.

Since upgrading from 8.6 to 9.2.2 in April, I have only three crash issues:

1. Sherlock's indexing function always hangs. Moot 'cause I don't like sherlock anyway, so I've turned the indexing off.

2. AOL Instant Messenger client crashes during sign-on quite often. Moot 'cause I use AIMM now (freeware).

3. Thoth (a newsreader) sometimes hangs when quitting. The soln is to delete its cache files every morning.

FWIW,
- Dan.
