Yeah, don't see why a Combo drive wouldn't work in a Beige machine...

Or you could go the overly convoluted way: Get a firewire card. Get an external firewire DVD drive (either combo or super drive) and use it's bundled s/w to play DVDs (assuming it works in OS 9.x).

My B/W never shipped with a Combo drive, but I got a toshiba to work in it...
