Here are my main questions --- Is it a fairly seemless upgrade (8.6 to 9.2.1)?
You'll have to perform a clean install to get to 9.2.x since this was a purchase upgrade. No biggie, you'll just need to reinstall some apps and re-set up printer and internet connection. I sounds like you have plenty of s/w for 9.x anyway.
Should I make the upgrade to 9.2.2 after the main system is installed?
Yes.
My B&W came pre-intstalled with a factory version of OS 8.6 (I have the green system CD if I need to reinstall 8.6) -- should I back up my HD just in case?
ALWAYS a good idea to upgrade before doing a major operation like this.
As well, do I need to shut off my Virex program before making the installation? Any other suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated.
I always suggest doing system s/w installations while booted to the CD.
