How are you connected to a network? The glitch occurs when you're directly connected to an ethernet network using the e-net port instead of through a hub or airport connection. That apparently resets the machine's IP to the default 169.254.xxx.xxx.

I downloaded and installed 10.2.8 within hours of its

along, no network or Internet failures whatsoever---Was it
ever established that the glitch is only affecting
computers with IP addresses in the 169.254.x.x range? Or
stations using a 10BASE-T Ethernet connection? Or both?
 Or neither?
