I have a Beige G3 MT that will not recognize a 256 mb ram in the third slot. I am also having other problems with it but thought this particular problem might identify it. I can put in 64 mb (would try larger but this is the largest I have except for the 256) and it works with that. Other problems are too numerous to mention for now. Any ideas as to why the 256 won't work in the third slot.

By this I take it the ram works in other slots? However 'other problems too numerous to mention' makes me think you've got more systemic issues.

Does the system settle down with no ram in that slot? If so you have a bad ram slot. If not you could well have a bad mobo, or ram you think is working doesn't.

Bad ram causes all sorts of whacked problems. On my 7600, it made the internal scsi bus go away...
