What is required to Upgrade a REV. A Beige G3? Do I have to replace the
motherboard?

My rev 1 mother board has just about every up-grade imaginable including a rev C
rom, usb/firewire, Radeon video board etc. It works just fine. It's a very
competent DV video platform, for example, to cite a rather demanding
application.

If I have it right, the mohtherboard revisions are numbered, the roms lettered.
The main difference between boards is the onboard video capability. The main
difference between roms is that B and C allow use of slave ata drives.

Both video and drive upgrades are best done with pci cards rather than new
motherboards or roms. An ATA 133 or 100 pci board, is much faster then the
native IDE bus. The Radeon 7000 and a number of lesser video cards are much
superior to the video on the rev 3 motherboard.

So take heart. Technology has come a long way since the Beige computers, but
that machine is wonderfully expandable and can handle a lot of the new stuff
with grace.
