Is your beige G3 a DT or MT model? From what you describe, it could be that
you need to change the J28 jumper, which is just in front of the far right
PCI slot, and "around the corner from the CUDA switch." In DT and AIO
systems, it's set to Mac, while in the MT systems, it's set to PS/2. Below
is, roughly, how it should look, although I might have the Mac & PS/2
designations backward...


    Mac [:]: PS/2 = DT & AIO setting
    Mac :[:] PS/2 = MT setting

I had the "won't power up" problem, when I created my "FrankenMac," by
moving the motherboard from my AIO case (with a dead PSU), to a MT case
(with good PSU) that I'd bought through an eBay auction. One of the Helpers,
at Apple's discussion boards, set me straight, and my "FrankenMac" has
worked just fine, since.
