I recall someone on this list previously saying they had to leave all
the jumpers off a drive in order to get it to work. Believe it may
have also been a beige & WD combo?

Have you tried a different cable?
Is this plugged into IDE bus 0 or 1? If bus 1 do you have something
plugged into bus 0. Believe this is a must on beige.
