If you have a big external hard drive, and are in OS 8.x to 9. just copy the whole
thing over (drag and drop icons). Done. Macs will be fine with that. Just like
Ghosting to a big external or network drive, except you don't need Ghost :). If you
need to back up to CD-Rs, you can burn files but risk losing comment field info unless
you are knowledgeable, or you can go with Retropect. www.macsales.com has some
Retrospect Express title for about $10 I think. check for OS version compatibility.

You only need the Copy Cloner thing if you are messing around with X. For a machine
that will only ever boot in 9.2 or less, just copying stuff around wil be fine.

I'm a little confused about your setup, since the you (original poster) talk about
8.1, 9.1, 9.2.1, and OS X as if it were on one machine, but I get the feeling that
although you mention Classic (which implies OS X), you really me " a machine currently
running 8.X that I might put 9.X on someday".

Or maybe not... HTH anyway.
