Several people have made queries about setting up file sharing between older Macs and newer models using ethernet. Here is my experience.

File sharing between a G3 OS9 and a G5 Panther over a local ethernet LAN and hub network.

To log on to the G5 from the G3, in the G3, in TCP/IP, change to Connect via: Ethernet, Configure: using DHCP. IP address becomes 192.168.2.2 In Chooser, select G5, enter user name and password.

To log on to the G3 from the G5, in the G3, in TCP/IP, change to Connect via: Ethernet. Configure: using DHCP. IP address becomes 192.168.2.2

In the G5, in Finder Menu, under Go, select: Connect to Server, enter Server Address (192.168.2.2) from G3. "Connect" as. . ( enter user name and password.)

In my case, in order to connect the G3 to the internet (via dial up) the settings on the G3 have to be set back to their original settings.

I wish there was a way to have sharing and internet access at the same time without having to change settings. Any ideas?

Hope this helps.

Keith
