I shudder every time I hear/read discussions of "workarounds" that
have been suggested in this thread.

Things like converting to .rtf or transferring via AppleWorks or
Open Office etc. only strengthen the PC / Windoze users sceptical
attitude towards the Mac.

I work in an all PC company and I fight tooth and nail to stick with a
Mac, currently using my OWN Pismo just so that I can use a Mac.

Any time I have mentioned these sort of problems throughout my
Uni degree or any other job, I have been met with a rather scornful
attitude, after all all the documents on the server are saved as .DOC
files and accessed by Office XP. I cannot change everything I work
on into .RTF or whatever just to function.

This is not critisism towards anyone, so don't get mad, I'm just
reflecting on life as a Mac user in this Micro$oft dominated world.
