Well, I wish I could MAKE my Mac work like that. I'd LOVE a silent startup.
I hate the big semi-musical crash or boom that accompanies the startup of
this G4-733 running OS 9.2.2. Sometimes when I get up early in the morning
ahead of the rest of the family, I don't want to wake up anybody who's
still sleeping, but when I start up the Mac it's like banging a big gong on
them.
Anybody know how to turn the startup "chime" OFF?

I never hear My Mac when I start it up, First because if I say I've shut down this baby thrice in 2004 I'd be exaggerating. Its always on and she is so good to me :) Anyway I have headphones on it all the time, the sounds don't come out that way and I am already used to ALWAYS having them on, I don't think I've been without headphones for at least a period of 24 hours in the last 10 years LOL, I am that used to them :) I got a CD player on when I am not on my Mac or working, I am beginning to realize that I may need to buy an iPod but they are so darn expensive!
