Mr. Jones, Your well thought out questions led me to the solution. When I checked iTunes burning preferences to get the exact CDRW model, I noticed that it was set to burn MP3 CDs rather than audio (from a previous backup). After changing it to burn audio CDs, everything worked correctly. My apologies to everyone for cluttering your inboxes with my dumb mistake.
