I've used XLR8 ZIF processors from Daystar technologies. Basically your B&W can only take ZIF processors and the highest G4 ZIF speed that runs at the native B&W 100Mhz bus speed has been 550mhz. These processors though do have the capability to be overclocked beyond 550. Right now my G4/500 has been oc'ed to 600Mhz and it's been stable since I got it back in February.
Now Sonnet and Powerlogix both make ZIFs for the B&W that go as high as 1GHZ (Sonnet has a G4/1GHZ ZIF and Powerlogix has a G3/1GHZ ZIF), BUT the big issue with these processors is that in order for them to work in the B&W the bus speed had to be lowered to 66mhz. However, Powerlogix may have solved this problem with their new G3/1GHZ ZIFs. Check out their site for more info. For my G4/500/oc'ed 600, I used the same heat sink, BUT I attached a heat sink fan to it that I got from a PC and I also used Arctic Silver in order to create a better contact between the heat sink and the processor. The XLR8 ZIFs have jumpers on them that make over clocking them very simple. Installation was simple with no special tools required. I say go for it, but check out the sites for Sonnet, Powerlogix, and Daystar in order to decide which ZIF you want. Good luck. on 04/5/26 9:33 PM, philphil at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Hello: > > I am making plans to put a G4 inside this machine. > > I was wondering, what kinds of speeds G4 were people able to put in ? > > And, do you need a new heat sink?
