The upgrade did not specify using heat goop, jsut the stock sink. Should I be
using some?

Be weary. I would strongly suggest it, just be careful of what you buy. I've seen several tests (and conducted some of my own) that suggest some brand-name goops don't do *anything*. So far thermal compound from Radio Shack works well, but Arctic Silver has been the best we've seen. Just remember, a little dab'll do ya!

2. If I wanted to add a fan, would it go on the current heat sink, or should I
look for something with its own sink? There isn't a lot of space above the heat
sink when the case is closed.

Most macs seem to do well with a good pentium heatsink and fan. You have to be careful what you get, as case restrictions in some cases limit the thickness of the replacement hs and fan. There are several sites that have detail (part #'s, etc) on which combos work well...I'd check xlr8yourmac.com for starts.

If you prefer to go with just the fan (with no heatsink), you will have to get one with standard, 4-wire power cables (the kind that piggy-back from your hard drive's power cable), or rewire the ends. I've managed to pull the pins out of the connector, pry them apart, insert the 2 wires, and re-crimp them. When the whole thing's together, you just have 2 small wires coming out of one of your spare power connectors that run to your fan.

have fun!
