I'd already recovered my data with a PC util wen I read about that util here; I tested this on a card with "deleted" data and it recovered them; I didn't have the "scrambled" card data still so could not test it on a format with problems. It should work though, depending on how they are doing the data recovery I guess.
Hopefully this never happens again but if so I'll try the OS X util first just to see.
