I'm using 10.2.6 and could not locate any Users->Startup Items under System Preferences, but I did locate Login Items under the Personal section and managed to add my script there. Now when I boot up, sure enough my server mounting script loads into the script editor, but that's as far as it goes. Same thing. They changed it in 10.3.
Save your apple script as an Application.
Also, you can make an Alias of the server share, and put that into your Startup Items.........
