Yesterday, I was upgrading a G3 MT with a Maxtor 80 GB main drive (ATA) and
adding a JAZ 1 GB (SCSI).

266 MHz (was to be upgraded to a 400 MHZ, but didn't get that far), 750 MB
RAM, original floppy and 24x CD, SCSI IBM 4 GB internal hard drive for the
duration of the upgrade, and the added 2 drives above.

On first start up - and through several OS upgrades on the hard drive -
everything was going just fine. I had followed suggested protocol and had
partitioned the new hard drive to 8 GB and 72 GB, with the smaller reserved for future
use with OS X and the larger for OS 9. Started with an original CD install
for G3 of OS 8.5, and worked up to OS 9.2.1. Did a complete rebuild of the
desktops of both hard drives and successfully brought it all back online with
everything working, including a 9 GB external. Closed down for supper, and have
not been able to get it to run since.

The computer does NOT chime, and starts up with a blank, white, off-center
panel, with a tiny line of print reading "1, unknown word_". My programming
experience in the '70s and '80s with Apple 2s suggests this is a programmers
access, but I haven't a clue how to proceed. Any help out there ?
