Actually, if he is just using the built-in switch on the router, the router doesn't need to support Appletalk. Only if he is trying to access the printer through the router does the router need to route Appletalk. Most of the SOHO class routers only route between the WAN port and the switch, not between the switch ports.

As others have mentioned, go with the Router. The only thing missing

with

the equation is a converter from your Ethernet cable to the LocalTalk
connector. I use a Fallon Ethernet-to-LocalTalk converter on my 1996 HP

LaserPrinter under AppleTalk, and as others have mentioned with similar
systems have had no problems.
