I must answer this with all my little heart. I have been a loyal apple fan
since the Apple II. However I can with my SUPER tight budget build a souped
up pc far cheaper then a Mac.

My pc:
AMD Athlon 2700xp 2.15GHZ
ASUS A7v600 mother board with 6 pci, 8 usb, built on sound and all the other
bells.
512MB Ram
80GB SATA drive and 120GB USB2 drive and 2 SCSI drives too
5.1 SoundBlaster live card
Dual monitor card and so so so much more. Cost around $1000, custom made
will top the $2000 name brand pc's!

I wish I had Mac
Dual 2.5GHZ G5 tower standard config, $3000 no monitor

Do your math! My pc in speed equals a G4 at 1.25GHZ thats just fine for me
but I have tons of PCI slots to add I/O card and sound card since I do audio
work. You give me the $5000 it would cost me to do a mac and I will be glad
to buy one!

Cheap iMac's dont cut it with this power user.
Plus and again, not all software it available for Mac, but I do expect this
to change. I think OS X is doing better then windows, if the Mac could have
a chance, apple will have no choice to allow other to make Macs. I feel Macs
will take over one day and be the primary computer of choice, until then I
need a pc too and they are cheaper, and when I built mine I bought the best
of the best hard ware. I cheaped no where.
