This prompts me to ask about something I've always meant to ask about: >From the Beige G3 writeup on the LEM site: > The beige G3 was the first Mac to power up from the keyboard where turning off > the computer doesn't turn off power to a monitor or other device connected to > the power out plug on the back. Apple reported this as a cost saving measure. http://lowendmac.com/ppc/g3.shtml Did Apple *really* have to do this? How much money were they actually saving by such a move? I'm having a hard time dealing with the fact that Apple is apparently still thinking in terms of "cost saving measures" with their (hugely expensive) G5 boxes. For the price they're asking, just _put the power button on the bloody keyboard_ and have it control all other devices for ease-of-use. My experience with people buying new Macs (admittedly, in Silicon Valley) is that money is less of a concern than their getting exactly what they want. $100 one way or the other doesn't seem to change a Mac buyer's mind. Apple has 2% of the world computer market and, knowing this, people expect to pay a premium price for Macs. However, there are many things is this world I don't understand, so I would appreciate any "education" the list could provide.
