The only reason for Netscape is to crack some sites IE is getting to old for, I'd love to try an alternative.
IE is a wart. Cut it off. :)
Try Mozilla. The WaMCom version works on OS 9. iCab has problems with some CSS-based sites, but for the most part, it is a superior browser - and a lot faster than Moz.
Have all of the software on my G4.. I still work in 9 more than I'd like to admit.
I do all my production work in OS 9. X is nice, but I'm not sold on it yet. Too many things I do run faster in OS 9 and Linux. And X's hardware support sux.
Never heard of Alpha... better than BBedit? I do all my html by hand so I don't need any WYSIWYG functionality...
BBEdit is a cute traditional editor with some advanced features wedged in. The free version is rather limited. I believe Bare Bones has abandoned support for the classic OS.?
Alpha is a very very powerful text editor with a built-in TCL engine. Along with its AlphaTCL package, it can do just about anything. Great for writing HTML. And if it doesn't do exactly what you need, just write some tcl for it. The guys that maintain Alpha are wonderful help; join their mailing lists.
The AlphaTCL Wiki, aka Alpha's home, is at
http://alphatcl.sourceforge.net/wikit/
I recommend the new beta, Alpha8 8.0b16; it's very stable. And if you have a problem the guys on the Alpha mailing lists can give you fixes almost immediately. Alpha 7.6 is also available, but Alpha8 is a lot more interesting and better supported. :)
For OS 9, you need two archives:

and
<http://aleron.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/tcl/MacTclTk 8.4.2 RuntimeInstl.bin>
