G4 MDD hangs starting X - any ideas?

I was working in OS 9.22 this a.m. on my G4MDD and when I went back to 
X, it hangs on the startup screen with the little rainbow ball spinning. 
There is a dialogue open to connect with one of the other computers at 
our workplace, but I can't click cancel or okay on it.

Any ideas of how to fix this?
