The most important aspect in the decision would be how much open space do you have left for OS X if you do partition the drive. On a smaller size drive a partition would probably not be a good idea especially if you are installing all your applications on the same partition. Folks who have systems requiring the less than 8 GB partition may find things getting tight and slower performance when applications start taking up space.

Many people say to put your apps on a separate partition to avoid this but it's been said some apps like to be on the same volume (partition) as the system files. Maybe some list member in-the-know can provide a short list of popular OS X software apps that work best on the system file partition?
