    The QuickTime movie format is fine for importing into a dvd authoring
program like idvd or dvd studio pro - the program will encode them in css
format  as it authors the disc. Or you can make them into a project with
efffects and transitions etc in iMovie before taking the project to either
of the dvd programs. Alternatively mpeg 2 (m2v) can also be used.
    To play as standalone mpegs I think the mpeg 4 format is the latest
codec - not sure whether that will view on a dvd player from a cd like vcd.
Vcd is mpeg 1 format and a reasonably cheap way to get full screen movies
into a dvd player on a cd - I think Toast will author QT movies to vcd.
