yes. some of it runs as java/java script, some of it is just cookies or "clear" 1x1 pixel images etc., and most clients will allow the history file to be read. i use my firewall to block most of the tracking sites. in terms of permanent changes, probably not, so far. of course if you have a broad band connection that's "always on" it's a good idea to power cycle it as many routers/firewalls have been hacked and it gets you a fresh ip, if you always have the same ip # it's very easy to keep track of you!
