It depends on your burner. It used to be that DVD burners used either DVD-R or DVD+R discs only. Nowadays, most burners can burn both but usually the DVD-R are rated at a slower burn rate than the DVD+R (though this fact is also becoming rare as more and more burners are coming out with the same burn rate in both + and -). Usually most commercial DVD players can play either disk. Apple has been notorious for ONLY supporting DVD-R's though Toast can burn in either format.
