I have a G3 All-In-One running Mac OS 10.2.8. As everyone knows Mac Os X
cripples the floppy drive, rendering it useless. My question is: what
interface does the floppy drive use (is it SCSI, IDE or some other alphabet
soup)? I looked everywhere on the web and could not find the answer to that
nagging question. The reason I ask is that I was thinking of removing the
floppy drive and perhaps replacing it with and second Hard Drive or
something. Does anyone know? Is this do-able? Thanks in advance.
I've been watching this thread with interest because I don't think anyone has actually answered your question if I read it right. If you mean is it possible to hook up a hard drive to the floppy cable the answer is no. The floppy cable/interface can only be used for a floppy (which basically makes it useless under OSX). Some of the others have suggested using the space occupied by the floppy drive in the case for other devices and this is certainly possible. You would have to use one of the IDE channels or a SCSI to use this space for a hard drive, but either one would not be difficult. As Dana suggested, you could always put a USB card in one of the PCI slots and use a USB floppy drive also.
