Hello Everyone, I need to do some "temporary" cheap 'n cheezy connecting and am hoping to entirely avoid having to explore home networking. Can anyone tell me how far away you can have a CPU from a phone jack (for a dialup connection) before any sort of connection-crippling attenuation sets in? For some reason, "6-10 feet" keeps running through my head. This box is going into a hallway (don't ask) and I'm hoping to just run a phone cord from the nearest phone jack which, unfortunately, is about 15-20 feet away.
and What do Sawtooth boxes run these days for a "basic" configuration? The reason I ask this is: I was toying with the idea of getting another G3 B&W box (about $180, including shipping) for the above project purely out of cost considerations. However, the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward a G4 AGP box because the price difference between a G3 and a G4 may not be all that significant now and the '4 may pay its own way in terms of longetivity.
