Wont bus speed limit the adapter card speed? Serial transmition versus
parallel. Better built?
Still like SCSI. I had an old quadra that worked well with just a 500
MB scsi drive. Speed is relative.
Would still like to find out what the real max size of a low profile 50
pin scsi hard drive is.

The add on SCSI cards are typically faster. Built in is only SCSI2,
which is 10 MB/Sec. The higher end cards like the 2940 are 40, (Ultra
Wide), and there is 80 MB/Sec, the 29160/29160N will do 160 MB/Sec, and
now there is out 320 MB/Sec. The 2940 PC version cards are cheap and
plentiful and will deliver 2x performance compared to the built in
internal SCSI on any Mac that had it built on the MoBo. And it
functions with OSX if you want to use it. I have flashed a couple with
no issues.

IDE is only cheap, but a dog on speed in comparison to SCSI. Not
saying it is slow, but when you use 29160 cards or better, it is....
Most people don't need the higher data speeds. Only your graphics
designers and audio/video guru's who deal in super large files and
don't want to waste a ton of time need it. Also SCSI drives come in
7200, 10000 and 15000 rpm speeds. IDE is still limited to 7200 (why?
I don't know....costs??)

ATA133 is said to be 133 MB/Sec, it isn't. It is more like 50 MB/Sec.
It still blows away SCSI2. But the cost for the space is hard to beat
compared to SCSI. SCSI uses a standalone processor to manage the data,
IDE uses the computer's processor. It can't and never will compare
with SCSI. They are just 2 different classes.
